The photographs on this site were found on the sidewalk, in the park, or on the street. Each is a unique slice of history whose anonymity invites interpretation. We describe where and when the photos were found, note anything that is written on the back, and leave the rest to the imagination.

The Superfluous Found Photo Archive began in 1989 with a single photograph found in Lansing, Michigan. Most of the photos that comprise the archive were found in San Francisco and Philadelphia.
